Day 0: We Leave Tenerife, Stay Within Our Budget and Arrive in Madrid

With a much appreciated ride to the airport in Tenerife from our friend Jay, we started our journey with a few hour wander in the airport. Mirm (Miriam) and Waffle (Christoph) managed to find a Pooh bear to ride but unfortunately the pirate ship was occupied by small-smalls. The things we could not find were Coke and food that were within our budget (free). We were disappointed and surprised to find there was no food or Coke within our budget on the plane either (free). Epic fail.

The flight gave beautiful views of the island of Tenerife, we could almost see the ship on the far side of the island.

We arrived in Madrid around 11:00 in Terminal 4, apparently the terminal to see if you are flying into Madrid. Check that off our list.

By far the most exciting part of our arrival was picking up our rental car. As hoped by one member of our party, it was a Peugeot and large enough for 7 passengers or at least a trio of conciencious packers. As for what ensued in the next few minutes after entering the car, we will just say that it had been a while since anyone drove a vehicle that was not a Land Rover. It may have required some small small amount of research with a spanish only car manual.

Our next adventure was trying to find our campground. Lets just say it can be confusing to find a place in a strange car in a strange place and This was complicated by more reading of the car manual and going up and down the road where we thought the campground was. Around 1am we still hadn’t found the campground and we had found a Burger King, but unfortunately it closed at 1am. Another epic fail for our stomachs. Thankfully a Döner Kebab shop was spotted.

The next epic fail was trying to hold a lemon Fanta between your knees while trying to take a photo of other people stuffing their faces with Kebabs.

After we ate and got back on the road, we experienced a real breakthrough in navigation and found the campground, Camping Osuna. We managed to set up the tent in the dark without further event and finally got to bed.
